Understanding your BVN, NIN and what lenders actually check
What happens behind the scenes when you submit your details, and how to keep your record clean.

Your BVN and NIN help a responsible lender confirm that an application belongs to a real person. They are identity tools, not passwords, and they do not give a lender permission to move money from your account.
What a lender checks
A lender may compare your legal name, date of birth, phone number, and identity record for consistency. They may also review information you provide about income, existing obligations, and repayment history.
Keep your records consistent
Use the same name order that appears on your official documents. Submit clear images with all four document corners visible and avoid screenshots that have been edited or heavily compressed.
Share details only through trusted channels
Never send an OTP, card PIN, internet-banking password, or full card security code to anyone claiming to process a loan. A legitimate verification flow should explain what is collected and why.
